Installation Guide

Complete installation instructions for Windows, Linux, and macOS. Choose your platform below.


Windows Installation

  1. Download CoraleVault-Setup.exe (15 MB)

  2. Run the installer

    • Double-click the downloaded file
    • If Windows SmartScreen appears, click “More info” → “Run anyway”
    • Click “Next” through the installation wizard
    • Choose installation location (default: C:\Program Files\CoraleVault)
    • Click “Install”
  3. Launch

    • Start menu → CoraleVault
    • Or desktop shortcut

System Requirements:

  • Windows 7 or later (Windows 10/11 recommended)
  • 50 MB disk space
  • 512 MB RAM

Method 2: Portable (No Installation)

  1. Download CoraleVault-Portable.zip (10 MB)

  2. Extract

    • Right-click → Extract All
    • Choose a location (e.g., C:\CoraleVault or USB drive)
  3. Run

    • Double-click CoraleVault.exe

Benefits:

  • No installation required
  • Run from USB drive
  • No admin rights needed
  • Leave no traces on host computer

macOS Installation

  1. Download CoraleVault.dmg

  2. Open the DMG file

    • Double-click the downloaded .dmg
    • Drag “CoraleVault” to the Applications folder
  3. First launch

    • Open Applications folder
    • Right-click “CoraleVault” → Open
    • Click “Open” to bypass Gatekeeper warning
    • (Subsequent launches: just double-click)

System Requirements:

  • macOS 10.13 (High Sierra) or later
  • Works on Intel and Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3)

Troubleshooting Gatekeeper: If macOS blocks the app:

Linux Installation

Ubuntu / Debian / Mint

Option 1: .deb package (Recommended)

Universal: AppImage

Works on any Linux distribution.

System Requirements:

  • GTK 3
  • Modern Linux distribution (2020 or newer)
  • 64-bit or ARM64

All releases are GPG-signed for security.

Import GPG Key

Verify Signature

Windows:

You should see: Good signature from "Coralesoft (Release Signing Key)"


Post-Installation

First Launch

  1. Launch CoraleVault
  2. Create your first vault (Getting Started Guide)
  3. Set up backups (Backup Guide)
  • Create backup folder for vault files
  • Set up cloud sync (Dropbox, Google Drive)
  • Write down master password (store securely)

Uninstallation

Windows

Installer version:

  • Settings → Apps → CoraleVault → Uninstall
  • Or: Start → CoraleVault → Uninstall

Portable version:

  • Delete the folder

Your vault file is NOT deleted - it remains where you saved it.

macOS

  • Drag “CoraleVault” from Applications to Trash
  • Empty Trash

Linux

Debian/Ubuntu:

Fedora/RHEL:

sudo rpm -e corale-vault

AppImage:

  • Delete the .AppImage file

Upgrading

To Upgrade

  1. Download latest version from /download/
  2. Install over existing version
  3. Your vault file is preserved
  4. Launch and open your vault

Note: Always backup before upgrading (though upgrades are safe).


Troubleshooting Installation

Windows: “Windows protected your PC”

Solution: Click “More info” → “Run anyway”

This warning appears because the app isn’t code-signed (costs $400/year). The app is safe - see our open source code.

macOS: “App can’t be opened because it is from an unidentified developer”

Solution:

  1. Right-click the app → Open
  2. Click “Open” in the dialog
  3. Or run: xattr -cr "/Applications/CoraleVault.app"

Linux: Missing dependencies

Ubuntu/Debian:

sudo apt-get install libgtk-3-0 libwxgtk3.0-gtk3-0v5

Fedora:

sudo dnf install gtk3 wxGTK3

Can’t find the application after install

Windows: Check Start menu or C:\Program Files\CoraleVault

macOS: Check Applications folder

Linux: Try running corale-vault from terminal or check Applications menu
